Generosity: blessed to be a blessing

Pause for a moment. Bring to mind someone who is generous.

Why them? What do are they doing?

  • Giving freely of their time to someone in need?

  • Making a substantial donation or investment toward a worthy cause?

  • Baking a loaf of bread for a neighbour?

  • Clearing out the closet and taking clothes to charity?

  • Volunteering at a food bank?

  • Sponsoring a local school sports team?

In your mind’s eye the person is giving in one way or another. They are moving outward toward others, not curved in on themselves. Because of how they have been blessed, they can bless others.

Pause again. Bring to mind someone who is generous.

Do you see yourself?

What are all the ways that the generosity of who you are because of Christ - time, talent, treasure - can be used for the wellbeing of others?

How might the power of the gospel - God’s grace lavished on you - be a wellspring of life for those in your midst?

The Generosity Project resources followers of Jesus to live out that outward, other-person focus - loving your neighbour deeply and well.

The Generosity Project highlights that “In Christian circles, 'generosity' is often code for giving money. But generosity is about far more than money. God is lavishly generous towards us in a thousand ways, and most of all in the grace of the gospel. God's powerful generosity through the gospel not only saves us, but sets us free to live a new, big-hearted life—a life which is no longer turned inwards on ourselves, but which flows out to others with an open, generous hand.”

The Generosity Project is a set of resources - helping you discover and live a generous life. Through this book and free online videos you engage with Bible teaching on generosity, get input from leading pastor-teachers, and work out what it all means and looks like - practically - in your everyday.
