Why does my work matter to God?
This is an important question that we need to be able to answer as most of us spend the majority of waking hours doing it! Last Thursday night we had the privilege of having the Peter Lynas unpack this question and widen it out to ‘why does the marketplace matter?’ to ground our conversations around casting vision for the Genesis Network.
Peter began by making the case that ‘we are made to work’ and draws from the first few chapters of Genesis to build a picture of the origins of work and who we are meant to be as divine image bearers.
He gave us a whistle stop tour of the significance of the marketplace for followers of Jesus reminding us that “…when God shows ups in human form he turns up as a carpenter” and how the vast majority of the parables Jesus told were set in a marketplace context. Stopping in to discuss the fall, the Hebrew word Avodah which means work, worship and serve and finishing with the new Jerusalem, Peter captured the ‘why’ of the Genesis Network better than we could have imagined!
If you weren’t there please do watch this, and I know that many who were there will want to watch this again.
