Viewpoint: Let's spur each other on!
Churches in Northern Ireland have been given the green light to meet as of the 29 June with churches throughout the UK all able to meet from the 4th of July. This is opening up discussions on when each church should begin to meet together again and also wider discussions on what should the local church look like post-lockdown.
As local churches consider these questions CBMC has been considering what it’s role is amongst businesspeople and professionals. A couple of weeks ago at the Friday prayer meeting the analogy of white hot coals in a barbecue was shared to describe how a number of us have been encouraging each other and that ‘spurring on’ has played a significant role in developing a deeper relationship with God over the past months.
Anyone who has done a bit of barbecuing in their time will know that when you get most of your coals white hot, they remain white hot whereas when a coal falls out of the barbecue and is on its own, it cools down much more quickly.
The analogy was explained in terms of the necessity to be surrounded by other Christians that are seeking to live their lives in a way that glorifies God. However it’s not enough to just spend time with other Christians, in Hebrews 10.24 we are compelled to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds”.
In the absence of many of the gatherings where we may have spent time with other believers we ask you to consider who are the ‘coals’ that you are living alongside even if that is through WhatsApp, Zoom and phone calls and then a challenge to keep our eyes focussed on Jesus and spur on our brothers and sisters toward ‘love and good deeds’.
