We want to see greater transformation - in our lives and in the marketplace.

These resources are here to support, encourage & challenge us on that journey.

Session 5 - Saving the Nations & Commissioning

  • Watch

Take a moment to watch this video (10 mins) from Faith & Co.

What if you could pay for a young woman’s university education by providing her with a “gap year” job? In Uganda, where few women are encouraged, or can afford, to attend university, Liz Forkin Bohannon decided to do something about it. She taught three young women to make strappy sandals which she sold back home in the U.S.

With this initial success, Sseko was launched. Soon they expanded into other products, hired more women, and sent more talented young women to university. Then Liz decided to create a community of Sseko Fellows in the U.S. to drive sales for the global production workers.

This symbiotic sisterhood provides jobs, livelihoods, education… and meaningful connections for women on both sides of the world. Sseko is using the market to change women’s lives.

  • Read

“[The marketplace] involves people seeking to trade goods, to barter wares, and to earn money in order to survive, then thrive, with the hope and goal of positively transforming their lives at the global, national, state, and personal levels.

To such people seeking transformation, we seek to bring the greatest transformative agent of all — the gospel of Christ.”

This paper from The Lausanne Movement brings a depth of content and resources for those looking to enrich their understanding of the significance of the marketplace in global mission.

  • Listen

Our work is key - YOU are key - to God’s redemptive work in drawing others to Himself. Take a closer look here at this clip from A Passion for Life.

  • Do

God always has a higher opinion of us than we have of ourselves. Stop and pray right now and ask God to show you what you look like through His eyes.

How does God’s mandate to Adam and Eve in the Garden apply to His mandate for you in the marketplace? (p 145)

Review each of the four principles of Luke 10 as applied to the marketplace (p 125-130). What might each look like in your place of business?

Take a moment to reflect on these questions and capture some of your thoughts in your Participant Journal (Session 5).
